This is the most common question we receive, “I need a custom cake, how do I order one?”. Here are some of our best tips and suggestions when ordering your next custom cake as efficiently as possible.
What is the best way: Face-to-Face, Email, Phone, Zoom, or DM?
Email is still King! Send us your date, venue name/address, serving size needs, cake inspiration photos, and any other important details. You can effectively show us your photo inspiration ideas through attachments and have unlimited space to effectively type out all of your thoughts on your custom cake. It is even a great reference point in the case you forget what details you asked for originally.
Face-to-Face is definitely the fastest way to order your cake, but this does require an appointment to be scheduled, so if you are short on time depending on your date this may not be the best option for you. Also, in this time of Covid we have paused on all in-person consultations in order to operate as safely and sanitarily as possible at the bakery.
Anything over the phone should be a follow-up to an email to re-confirm details.
We do NOT do DMs (direct messages). Social media is a great tool to reach our clients by showing off our work, but inquiring on a DM is messy and unprofessional.
What information do you need from me?
Date/Venue
First and foremost the date. This is super important to us as our busy wedding season is typically March through the end of October. We do not do week-of orders.
Even a simple cake needs time to be:
This is at least two days worth of work. We ask for at least three weeks notice in advance as we value quality over quantity. This allows enough time to make sure we have certain products in house and all details are finalized. If you need a cake during our busy wedding season months please contact us sooner than later to get an idea of what our calendar looks like.
Basic Design
Have absolutely no idea of what style of cake you are looking for? We love designing ideas for our client’s, but there needs to be a basis of inspiration. For instance, colors, invitation stationary, party themes, and/or cake photo styles that you have pinned or even found off Google.
It is difficult for us to put a quote together for a cake design that does not exist, and we do not like to throw out just any set of random numbers. If you are still unsure of your final design, but have a basic idea feel free to send us photos and we can put together initial pricing. However, pricing is subject to change depending on final design details.
Guest Count
We need to know how many guests you are planning on serving with this cake and/or if you need this cake to be a certain size. This is especially helpful for wedding cakes, but in turn allows us to convey accurate sizing guidelines to our clients. A cake that feeds 10 guests will not look the same as a cake that will feed 20 and we like to be as transparent as possible.
Finally, let us know what flavor you would like for your cake. If your cake has multiple tiers we can have a different flavor per tier. If you are unsure of what to choose we can always help guide you based on our most popular cake combinations.
How much will my custom cake cost?
We are available for your date, and you have provided us all the information we need to get a quote started for you. We can provide a quote within 24 to 48 hours.
As each cake is unique, the same goes for the quote(s). We like to spend time working with our team in understanding how much time each cake decoration process will take and how this affects the price of the cake. Many things will affect the cost of the cake that is why it is important you provide us with as much information as possible, so there is not too much back and forth when it comes to the quote process.
Be realistic with your budget. While a car shaped cake might not be as much as an actual car, it is still time consuming to rebuild something of that nature with cake and edible materials.
How do I finalize my cake order & make sure we are in your books?
Once we have finalized the discussion of your cake we will send over an official agreement with all your cake details that we will need to be initialed, signed and returned as soon as possible. A 50% non-refundable deposit of your cake total will be required to confirm your order. Final updates/changes to your cake and payment will be due three weeks prior to your event date.
Happy cake planning!
